Over the last two weeks, five captivating videos of beautiful places near and dear to many Ottawa Road Trippers have come across my social media feeds. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did…and that they inspire you to hit the road (or the air—most of them have an aerial photography component).
Prince Edward County: An Aerial Journey
The thudding soundtrack seems a bit of a mismatch with the bucolic scenes of wineries, sand dunes and ferries, but it’s a lovely perspective on the place known to many as simply “the County.”
Iles de la Madeleine, 2014, Dizifilms
The vibrant colours and golden light make me want to go back to these windswept islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. When you’re having a stressful day, watching this eight-minute aerial video (which also has a sweeping, historical-epic-style score) will transport you far from your worries.
Quebec by Seaplane
This video is part of a French TV show called Fallait le Faire (It Had to Be Done). Participants propose their dream project and solicit votes. The project then goes before a jury, and the winners get the green light to make their dream come true. It’s cool to see how delighted this visitor is to explore landscapes that we sometimes take for granted. The commentary is in French, but you don’t need to be fluent to get the picture.
An Instagramming journey through Quebec
This cheery little video, set to Imagine Dragons’ “On Top of the World,” includes lots of the province’s greatest hits, from the top of Mount Royal to what I’m pretty sure is Montmorency Falls (it’s been years since I’ve been there; clearly, I need to go back). Plus, it was shot in the fall, so there are lots of pretty fall colours to admire just before we succumb to the cold grip of winter.
Product of My Placement (Ottawa Made): The Joynt and Maya Mayne
I’m clearly late to this party; this catchy song and the accompanying video came out two years ago. But it only came to my attention recently, and I find it weirdly hypnotic. Part of the fun is trying to pinpoint exactly where a shot was taken. It paints a lovely picture of Ottawa and reminds us all that, sometimes, the best road trips are right in our backyard.
