Video: Butterflies in Montreal

Butterflies everywhere! If this sounds like your idea of a relaxing afternoon, I have just the suggestion: the tropical greenhouse at the Montreal Botanical Garden, which is hosting Butterflies Go Free until April 24, 2016.

Lowi swallowtails, common mormons, zebra longwings and other exotic-sounding butterflies flit among blooming lilies, verbena and many other jewel-coloured flowers. A few times, I thought a butterfly was stuck to a blossom, but then realized it was just having a really good meal of nectar and didn’t want to leave.

If you’re visiting with kids, they’ll probably be drawn to the displays of caterpillars and cocoons, which are the educational focus of this year’s show.

To give you a taste of Butterflies Go Free, here’s a stress-busting video I made when I visited the exhibition in February. Enjoy! (P.S.: It’s the first video I ever shot and edited completely on my phone.)

Disclosure: I visited the show as a guest of the Montreal Botanical Garden.

Love your vid, Laura! What app did you use to edit? And I can see butterflies needs to be my next Montreal road trip. The Agatha Christie exhibit was wonderful.

Thanks, Alex! Glad you liked it–and that you enjoyed the Agatha Christie exhibit! She really was a fascinating character, wasn’t she?

I used an iPhone app called Splice that was pretty intuitive, except when it came to fading out the music at the end of the video. I couldn’t quite master that.
