Light trails on Colonel By Drive, next to the Shaw Centre in downtown Ottawa.

I’ve been really lucky: Over my career as a travel writer, I’ve had the chance to travel to every province in Canada (the territories are still on my list). And I’ve taken literally thousands of photos. Most of them are duds, but a few have become favourites.

So throughout July and August, I’m going to be posting one photo a day that I took somewhere in Canada, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. And on Canada Day, I couldn’t think of a better subject than Ottawa itself.

I made this photo while taking a class at the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa. If you’re into photography, I highly recommend the school, which is moving into new digs on Preston Street this year.

I suspect this particular scene won’t be quite so quiet this evening. Just a hunch. 🙂

Happy Canada Day, everyone! Watch this website once a day until the end of August for a new Canada 150 photo.
