Welcome to this week’s edition of the play-at-home Ottawa Road Trips trivia game!

First off, thanks so much to everyone who played last week’s trivia game. Our winner was reader Alyson Fair, and a $10 Tim Horton’s e-gift card is headed her way. I’ve updated last week’s game with the answers.

And now, on to this week’s game, with 10 more questions to test your knowledge of places in Ontario, Quebec and beyond. Each question includes a handy link to a post where you’ll find the answer. As always, note that this is virtual travel only—please wait to actually visit these places until the COVID-19 crisis ends!

NOTE: This week’s game has closed in terms of being able to win the prize, but you’re welcome to play for fun. I’ve updated the post to include the answers at the very bottom. And I’ll be in touch with the winner shortly.

Question 1: Hop on a ferry

The Wolfe Islander III ferry connects Wolfe Island to what Eastern Ontario city?

Question 2: Farmer’s market and BeaverTails

In what small community near Barry’s Bay can you visit a farmer’s market at Hoch Farm on Saturday mornings in summer and early fall? (Hint: This village is also the place where BeaverTails were invented.)

Question 3: Old-growth forest and yummy muffins

Name the Ottawa Valley town where walkers can wander through an old-growth white pine forest called Gillies Grove, then reward themselves with a muffin from Urban Farm Girls Bakery & Cafe.

Question 4: Chelsea scavenger hunt

This is the Chelsea Pub. You didn’t think I’d give you a photo of the actual vehicles, did you?

What sort of vehicle will you use—a kayak, an e-scooter or a tandem bicycle—if you take a scavenger hunt-style tour in and around Chelsea with a company called Géo-Explora?

Question 5: Climb a cliff face

In which provincial capital city can you traverse a rock face near Montmorency Falls on a system of cables and metal handles called a via ferrata?

Question 6: A less-famous canal

You can stay overnight in a floored tent called an oTENTik next to the Upper Beveridges Locks near Smiths Falls. Those locks are part of a small canal that links Perth to the Rideau Canal. What is the name of that smaller canal?

Question 7: Art in the forest

In which east-end Ottawa community can you see stone artworks from around the world as you walk along a forest trail at the Humanics Sanctuary and Sculpture Park?

Question 8: Ancient fossils

Hi
I just happened to read your last two quiz’s. I find them very interesting. I am a teacher and I wanted to know if I could link or use your quizzes to my classes. Of course I would not include the prize. You might have something else you would like to propose.

Hi Johanne,
I’m so glad you like the quizzes–thanks! I’d be delighted if you shared them with your classes; thanks for asking. Anything I can do to help teachers and kids during this time is fine by me. (And any other teachers reading this: please feel free to use the quizzes, too.)
Cheers,
Laura
