This week’s heads up post features lots of discounts and deals, including savings on Ottawa museums and attractions, a summer learning series at Carleton, and a Toronto hotel. I also have the scoop on two big music events coming to town, and outdoor movies in Morrisburg. And act quickly if you want to tour eight Ottawa gardens next weekend!
Summer passes help you save money on Ottawa attractions
Planning on a staycation this summer? If you want to pack a lot into a few days, you could pick up an Ottawa Summer Savings Pass. It admits you to seven activities and attractions over your chosen three-day period, including the Haunted Walk (see photo at the top of this post), the pipe coaster mountain ride at Camp Fortune and Parc Oméga. And for a limited time, you can save 30% off the price by using the code OTTAWA30 at checkout.
The Ottawa Museums Pass comes in one-day and three-day versions and admits you to eight museums, as well as the National Gallery of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mint. For a limited time, you can save 30% off the three-day pass by using the code OTTAWA30 at checkout.
Save on registration for Carleton’s Summer Showcase
Carleton University’s Lifelong Learning Summer Showcase is a full week of half-day classes for the general public, from July 22 to 26. Topics range from art thefts and artificial intelligence to New Orleans jazz and logical fallacies, and there are no prerequisites. You can register for a single class, a full day, three full days or the whole week, and early-bird prices are in effect until June 14.
Enjoy outdoor movies in Morrisburg
The South Dundas Waterfront Cafe is launching its outdoor summer movies program with a screening of E.T. at the Docksyde Cafe in Morrisburg on Saturday, June 15. You can also see Jaws at Morrisburg Beach on July 20 and Migration back at the Docksyde on August 17. All shows start at 6pm. If the weather is bad, they’ll be indoors at the Morrisburg Arena.
Paula Abdul tickets are available
Big news for Paula Abdul fans: The pop star who rose from L.A. Lakers cheerleader to 1980s dance sensation is coming to the Arena at TD Place in Ottawa on October 21 and Slush Puppie Place in Kingston on October 22, and tickets are available now.
CityFolk tickets are also on sale
Elsewhere at Lansdowne Park—the Great Lawn, to be precise—the CityFolk festival (September 11 to 15) will appeal to fans of all things acoustic. This year’s lineup includes Greta Van Fleet, Tennessee Cree, Fred Eaglesmith, the Beaches and many more, and tickets are available now.
Book ahead to save 25% on Toronto’s Chelsea Hotel
If you’re planning ahead for a trip to Toronto, you can take advantage of advance-booking discounts at the huge, centrally located Chelsea Hotel. Book seven to 30 days in advance and get 15% off; 31 to 60 days in advance and get 20% off; or more than 61 days in advance and get 25% off.
