National Canadian Film Day falls on Wednesday, April 15, this year. You can mark the occasion with special screenings of Canadian movies at venues across Canada. It looks like Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is a hit with programmers in Eastern Ontario, while Les furies is getting lots of airtime in Quebec.
In Ottawa and Eastern Ontario, showings include the following:
- a full day of Canadian films at the O’Brien Theatre in Arnprior, starting at 11:30am;
- Corner Gas: The Movie at the Madawaska Valley Public Library in Barry’s Bay;
- two showings of Dancing on the Elephant at the Empire Theatre in Belleville;
- Queen of My Dreams at the Deep River Public Library;
- Les furies (The Furies) at the Deseronto Public Library;
- a double feature of Le petite et le vieux (Blue Sky Jo) and The Girl Who Cried Pearls at the Centre culturel le Chenail in Hawkesbury;
- You Are Here: A Come From Away Story at the Ingleside branch of the SDG Public Library;
- Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie at the Killaloe and District Public Library;
- in Kingston, a showing of Ballerina at the Centre culturel Frontenac, and a screening of Space Cadet at The Broom Factory;
- Peace by Chocolate at the Morrisburg branch of the SDG Public Library;
- more than 20 screenings in Ottawa, including a showing of BlackBerry at the Centennial Branch of the Ottawa Public Library in Bells Corners;
- Franklin and the Turtle Lake Treasure and A Bear Called Winnie at the Pembroke Public Library;
- Youngblood and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie at the Troyes Cinema in Petawawa;
- in Peterborough, separate screenings of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie;
- Clairtone at the Regent Theatre in Picton;
- Men With Brooms at the O’Brien Theatre in Renfrew;
- Youngblood and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie at Centre Cinemas in Trenton;
- Boxcutter at the Tweed Public Library; and
- Fireheart at the Winchester Branch of the SDG Public Library.
And in Gatineau, the Laurentians and Montreal, your choices include the following:
- Gagne ton ciel (The Cost of Heaven) at Troquet in Gatineau;
- Les furies (The Furies) at Cinéma Laurier in Mont-Laurier;
- nine different screenings in Montreal;
- Les furies (The Furies) at Cinéma St-Eustache;
- Les furies (The Furies) at Cinéma Carrefour du Nord in Saint-Jérôme; and
- Les furies (The Furies) at Cinéma Pine in Sainte-Adèle.
