Candy-coloured houses in Havre-Aubert on les Iles de la Madeleine (Magdalen Islands)—a windswept, gorgeous archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence—caught my eye. These Quebec islands are a bit off the beaten track, but you can get there by ferry, cruise ship or plane.
