Motorcycles parked in front of a cute shop in Merrickville, Ontario.

I took this shot a few years ago, but it’s still one of my favourites. I just love the contrast between the powerful-looking motorcycles, the heritage building, the cute shop signs and the flower baskets…not to mention the British phone box.

Merrickville is one of the places I’m constantly recommending to people as a day trip destination. You can browse for mustards and all sorts of cooking gadgets at Mrs. McGarrigle’s, watch glass blowers at work at Gray Art Glass, paddle your kayak or canoe on the Rideau Canal, and check out the historic buildings at the Merrickville lockstation.

Throughout July and August 2017, I’ll be posting one photo a day that I’ve taken somewhere across Canada, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Want to see more photos in this series? Type “Canada 150 photo” in the search window on the right-hand side of this page.
