Welcome to the Ottawa Road Trips trivia game for the week of June 1, 2020!

Many thanks to everyone who played last week’s game. Our winner is reader Rachel Mok, and a $10 Tim Horton’s e-gift card is headed her way. I’ve updated last week’s game with the answers.

Here are 10 more questions to test your knowledge of places in Ontario, Quebec and beyond. Each question includes a handy link to a post where you’ll find the answer.

This week’s game is closed to new email entries, but you can still play just for fun! The answers are at the bottom of the post.

Question 1: Artistic alley

In what Eastern Ontario city can visitors normally buy art in a stone passageway called Martello Alley that has been redecorated to look like an artists’ alley in Paris?

Question 2: Pedal through the Laurentians

What is the name of the 232-kilometre cycling trail that runs along an abandoned railroad bed through St-Jérôme and many other communities in the Laurentians?

Question 3: An architect and stonemason

What is the name of the man who escaped slavery in Kentucky during the U.S. Civil War, came to Canada, became an architect and stonemason, and was involved in building what is now Winchester United Church (among many other buildings in Eastern Ontario and northern New York state)? (P.S.: You can read his full 1901 autobiography online at the Documenting the American South website.)

Question 4: Frosty canoe race

Since I’m in this photo, this is clearly not a pro ice canoeing team! (Also, while it was cold, you’ll note the distinct lack of ice.)

What city usually hosts an ice canoe challenge each February, where teams start at a historic clock tower and paddle through the frigid St. Lawrence River to Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Ste-Hélène? (Hint: If you played the quiz a few weeks ago, you’ll recognize that building in the background.)

Question 5: Burgers and onion rings….mmmm….

Burger at the Rocky River Café.

In what Eastern Ontario town can you enjoy dishes created by a Chopped Canada winner at the Stone Cellar restaurant, or dig into enormous burgers or unique sweet onion rings (with maple syrup!) at the Rocky River Café? (Note for those living in and around Perth: Both restaurants are currently doing takeout!)

Question 6: Island castle

The McDougall Mill in Renfrew was built around the same time as the route whose name I’m looking for.

What is the name of the historic 201-kilometre route that runs through the Madawaska Valley from Castleford to Whitney, through communities such as Renfrew and Barry’s Bay?

Question 9: A sweetly named neighbourhood
